Sponsor Spotlight #2 – SpotHero

Greetings! Did you miss us? Don’t lie…

Today, I present our second sponsor spotlight, the fine folks at SpotHero. SpotHero’s raison d’être is making parking cheaper and easier, and this is certainly going to come in handy as we ride our trusty steed across Europe and Asia. SpotHero has generously volunteered to pick up our parking costs as we travel, so even though SpotHero doesn’t have coverage overseas (though check out their new options in DC!), we’ll be able to park as if they did.

So, whether we find ourselves struggling to find parking on the Pamir Highway or are just looking to pop out for a few minutes to check out the Door to Hell, SpotHero has our back. If you live in Chicago, Milwaukee, or DC, definitely check them out, and stay tuned as they continue to roll out to more locations. Big thanks to Mark, Jeremy, JSquilla, and the rest of the SpotHero team for their generous contribution.

Without further ado, here are some images to give you an idea of how we plan to park our vehicle as we travel across two continents.

Laters,
Jon/Matt/Ian

Sponsor Spotlight #1 – Gerber Gear

Hey folks!

So, one of the things we’re going to use this blog for is to shout-out our sponsors for their assistance in helping us reach our goal. This is good because our sponsors are lovely, beautiful people, and they should be thanked. It is also good because I want to encourage all readers of our blog to purchase products and services from these good people. Finally, it is good because it will hopefully encourage other wonderful folks to sponsor us. It’s win-win-win! Or maybe win-win-win-win? Win5?

Our first shout-out goes to to friend-of-the-trip Joe Mattson, who, in addition to being a badass, is also extremely generous, and has helped encourage his employer, Gerber Goods, to supply us for our upcoming journey. See below for some of the highlights of these supplies, and be sure to check them out at http://www.gerbergear.com/.

We Bought a Car!

Alexander the Great had Bucephalus.

Napoleon had Marengo.

Roy Rogers had Trigger.

Great men. Great steeds. Coincidence? Of course not. Great men ride great beasts, and Ian, Matt, and I are no exception. Thus, without further ado, I present our chariot (careful not to look directly at it, lest you get destroyed like when they opened the Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones):

Awwww yeah. That’s a nice ride. Not enough for you? BAM!!!

Stick a few oversized dudes in there, toss in some camping gear, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a Mongol Rally Stew. Extra spicy.

To answer your question: no, we haven’t named it yet. You can’t rush such important things. How will we know when it’s the right time to name it? Oh, we’ll know.

Welcome to the Blog!

Hi everyone! Jon here.

Thanks for finding your way to our blog. Over the next month, I’ll be posting (EXTREMELY SPORADIC) updates about our preparations for this year’s Mongol Rally, including our efforts to procure a vehicle on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and our desperate pleas to sponsors to give us free stuff. But first, to whet your whistle and give you an idea of what to expect on our ~ 5 week (hopefully) adventure from England to Mongolia meet the team and check out their bios.

Other Stuff:

  1. Keep up with our progress on the map.  Our GPS beacon will be tracking our location daily.
  2. Follow us on twitter! We’re @ilathepun (get it?? Attila the Hun, but Pun instead???). I promise I’ll actually tweet something as soon as Ian gives me the password (so, basically, never).
  3. Big thanks to our first sponsor, Gerber Gear! Ian promises that we’re going to get many, many machetes (and hopefully other stuff, too!)
  4. While this trip is largely just something to do because we think it’s cool, we’re also going to use this opportunity to raise money for a good cause. We’ll likely be raising money for a few charities, including the One Fund (#BostonStrong), to keep those checkbooks handy and your eyes peeled (what a gross phrase).
  5. Any questions? Hit us up at thehunpercent@gmail.com (HA! Puns!!!)

Love,
Jon, Matt, and Ian
